2006: You can be a trail-blazer and learn about forest
stewardship at two upcoming Washtenaw Land Trust events:
Sunday,
May 7, 2-4 p.m. Spring Stewardship Workday & Hike: Trailblazers!
Help finish the final sections of the hiking trails at the
Washtenaw Land Trust's Sharon Hills Nature Preserve. See the
results of the prescribed burn that was done this spring to
help promote the growth of native Michigan plants, and learn
about potential future forest stewardship activities.
Saturday,
May 13, 10 a.m. - noon. Guided Forest Hike
Visit Sharon Hills Nature Preserve on a hike with Andy Henriksen,
local forester with the Conservation District and creator
of the forest plan for this preserve. Andy will be able to
describe forest management techniques and answer your questions.
Learn how to keep forests healthy!
        Everyone
is welcome to these free events; membership is not required.
Sharon Hills Preserve is located between Manchester and Chelsea,
southeast of Ann Arbor. Registration is requested. Please

Land Trust's forest stewardship work is funded in part through
a grant from the Forest Stewardship Program of the U.S. Forest
Service administered by the Michigan Department of Natural
Resources.
        The Washtenaw
Land Trust is Michigan's oldest land trust and has protected
more than 2,000 acres of farmland and natural areas. A private,
501(c)(3) non-profit organization, it provides private land
protection solutions in Washtenaw, Jackson and Ingham counties.
The Washtenaw Land Trust's land protection work focuses on
educating landowners and other interested community residents
about the importance of protecting the open spaces that make
our region a great place to live.
