The Washtenaw Land Trust was pleased to host Rich Harlow, Program Manager with the Michigan Department of Agriculture's Farmland Preservation Office, for a workshop on how local governments and landowners can apply to Michigan's Agricultural Preservation Fund.

Established in 2000 under the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, Act 451 of 1994, the state-administered PDR program has resulted in 69 development rights easements, 12 of which have been donated, protecting over 15,300 acres at an investment of more than $27 million.

This program expands the farmland preservation effort by providing grants to local PDR initiatives. Local officials, planning commissioners, landowners, and other interested parties were invited to learn more about this farmland protection program.
