"Is Protecting Your Land Right For You? Ask the Experts"
Workshop to highlight estate and tax planning, land protection

(Ann Arbor, Michigan) - A record amount of land is passing from one generation to another. New expanded tax incentives for private conservation protection have just been passed into law last week. More and more landowners are asking themselves, "Should I protect my land, and if so, how?" Many are concerned that they don't know the right questions to ask, or who to ask them of.
Landowners will have a chance to pose their land protection questions to a panel of experts at "Is Protecting Your Land Right For You? Ask The Experts" on October 3, 2006.
This session, hosted by the Washtenaw Land Trust, will provide landowners with an opportunity to learn what it takes to protect their land, and how to decide if it's a good option for them. The expert panel will include lawyers, appraisers, tax accountants and estate planners.
As part of this seminar, attendees will also receive "The Land and Lawyer Handbook," the Washtenaw Land Trust's new detailed compilation of state and federal law pertaining to land donations.
By understanding land protection strategies and the corresponding estate tax and income tax implications, landowners, working with their professional advisors, can plan ahead to accomplish their goals.
