About
the Vershum farmland protection project: The Vershum family
dairy farm is located east of Manchester and southwest of
Ann Arbor. In 2002, the Land Trust secured a federal challenge
grant to work with the Jim & Charlotte Vershum family
to permanently preserve 69 acres of their cropland. Thanks
to the generosity of local supporters and a family donation,
the Land Trust was able to meet the challenge. Once the conservation
agreement is finalized, the farmland will be protected - forever.
This
event is sponsored in part through the generosity of General
Motors Powertrain in Ypsilanti.
The Washtenaw
Land Trust is Michigan's oldest land trust and has protected
more than 2,000 acres of farmland and natural areas. A private,
501(c)(3) non-profit organization, it provides private land
protection solutions in Washtenaw, Jackson and Ingham counties.
The Washtenaw Land Trust's land protection work focuses on
educating landowners and other interested community residents
about the importance of protecting the open spaces that make
our region a great place to live.
